Ismail Dogruer is a Turkish journalist living in Germany, married with 3 children. He was born in 1964 in Istanbul, Turkey. In Turkey, he worked as a student, in restaurants and hotels as a gastronomy worker, and as a ceramic worker. During the years of the September 12th Coup and civilian administration, he was arrested and tried numerous times due to his political beliefs and stance. He worked as an editor in socialist newspapers and magazines in Turkey. He left his country due to life-threatening sentences and risks of extrajudicial execution. Today, he continues his life in Germany as a recognized political figure. In Germany, he worked as a warehouse worker, transport worker, forklift operator, and professional truck driver. As a journalist with an international press card, he wrote articles for local newspapers and political journals. He conducted interviews with artists, unionists, politicians, and activists. He gave speeches at congresses, conferences, and panels on culture, art, politics, and political developments in Turkey. In 2016, he founded the Simurg Media Workshop. He published the SimurgNews digital newspaper for 4 years with the collective work of over 40 journalists, writers, historians, researchers, artists, human rights, and social rights activists. He served as the chief editor. Currently, he works as a book editor, photographer, webmaster, and freelance journalist, focusing on writing, news, social reports, interviews, photos, and video-news content on topics such as labor, migration, refugees, women and children’s rights, war, Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. He continues his work on his personal website and on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram.
